So far I've been using 4D 2003.3 to generate the Foundation components. 4D made a major change to components with version 2003.4, so a component generated with that version won't work with 4D 2003.3 or earlier. But a 2003.3 component works with any version of 4D from 2003.0 through 2004.x.
At least that's the theory. It turns out there are some problems using components generated with 2003.3 in later versions of 4D.
One solution is to generate the components with multiple versions of 4D, but that's a hassle and a little confusing. So I'm considering just updating the Foundation components to 2003.6. I'm hoping that this will allow the components to be installed into a 2003.5 or later database without any problem. And without having to generate separate components for 4D 2004.x.
Would that be a problem for anyone? If you're currently using 4D 2003.4 or earlier, you'd either need to upgrade to a newer version of 4D or you'd need to re-generate the components yourself for use with 2003.0 through 2003.4. If you're using 4D 2003.5 or later, or 2004.x, then it shouldn't be a problem. _________________ Dave Batton
