Technical Support

Need help with Foundation 4? Although you can email us directly, or send your question using the Support Request Form, your best bet is to post your question in the new Foundation Forum. This way you can get responses from other developers, as well as from Foundation's author. Since the forum messages remain available and searchable, you'll also be adding to the knowledge base available to other Foundation developers.

Foundation &
4D 2004.1

4D 2004.1 is now available for public beta testing. If you're interested in using Foundation with 4D 2004, please give this new release a try and report any problems you find directly to 4D. Although we're also submitting Foundation related bug reports, your input will help 4D locate and correct any remaining issues related to the Foundation Shell.

Foundation 4.0.5 News

There's no update to the shell this month, although some of the components have been updated and are available now for beta testing. A hook has been added to the Fnd_IO component so you can control what happens when the Save, Cancel, or navigation buttons are clicked in an input form. Also, the Find and Sort dialogs now remember their settings between uses, and some minor bugs have been fixed in the Preferences component.

Look for the official 4.0.5 release next month.

Component Report

With over 20 Foundation components available, how do you keep track of which versions are installed in your database? Use the Component Report dialog. You can select it from the Tools menu in the Custom Menus environment when Foundation isn't running. It displays a list of every known Foundation component, and displays a version number next to the ones that are installed in the database.

Since the Component Report menu item was added after the initial Foundation release, you might not see it in databases created with earlier versions of the Foundation Shell. You can just add this item yourself to the Tools menu, and associate it with the Fnd_Gen_ComponentReport method.
