In the Forum

The Foundation Forum is the best place to communicate with other Foundation developers. And now it's even better with an RSS feed. The forum has been syndicated so you can instantly be notified when there's a new post.

Wayne Stewart, author of the Foundation Grid component, has posted a great tip that eases the pain of installing multiple components with 4D Insider 2004.1.

4D 2004 Components

4D Technical Support has identified a problem in 4D Insider that can cause problems when installing a component created with 4D 2003.x into a 4D 2004.x database. To avoid this problem, we have generated the Foundation 4.1 components using both 4D 2003.3 and 4D 2004.1. Just download the components as usual. In the archive you will now find two folders: One with the components for 2003.x, and another with the 2004.x components.

Special Offer from Osmose Editeur

Don't forget, there are just a couple of days left to save on some really cool 4D plug-ins.

Through February 28th, Osmose Editeur is offering Foundation users a 25% discount on all of their products (except SybasePack).

Foundation 4.1 Is All About Toolbars

Adding a picture button to a form is easy. The hard part is finding the perfect icon, then manipulating it in an image editor to create the different button states. For Foundation users, this process just got a whole lot easier.

Foundation 4 lets you add a toolbar to any form simply by inheriting another form. And the new 4.1 version allows you to add new toolbar buttons with a single line of code. Best of all, it also includes over 50 ready-to-use, professional-quality icons.

Foundation 4.1 is now available. In addition to a major overhaul of the Foundation Toolbar, Buttons, and Input/Output components, we've also improved the way Foundation works with 4D 2004. For example, the Find and Sort dialogs will automatically use sheet windows on Mac OS X.

Foundation developers can download the new release now. With the new component system, you're just minutes away from taking advantage of this great new functionality.

Visit the Foundation Components page for the latest version and the release notes for each component.

Foundation Extras 4.1

Also new this month is an update version of the Foundation Extras plug-in. Version 4.1 fixes a bug in the Fnd_Ext_TextLines routine, which is used by the Foundation Dialogs component when displaying alert and confirm dialogs.

We've also released the Foundation Extras plug-in in the new 4D 2004 package format. This new plug-in type contains the code for both Macintosh and Windows. It is designed to be placed into a Plugins folder rather than the Mac4DX or Win4DX folder.

Since the older style (Mac4DX/Win4DX) plug-ins still work fine with 4D 2004, they're still the default plug-ins we're distributing with the shell. So if you want to use the new package-style plug-in, you must download it separately from the Foundation Downloads page.
